Iva Smith

Iva Irene Smith, 92, of Lafayette, died at St. Anthony Healthcare Center 1:13 AM Sunday February 15, 2009 where she had been a patient the past 2 weeks. Born February 6, 1917 in White County, Indiana, the daughter of the late Nathan and Pearl Beeker Eldridge, she had resided most of her adult life in Lafayette. She married Newton J. Smith March 11, 1939, and they divorced in 1957. Mrs. Smith had worked at Purdue University and also St. Elizabeth Hospital. Surviving is a daughter, Karen Andrews of Lafayette, IN.; 2 sons, James "Jim" Smith (wife Gertie) of Speedway, IN.; Kenneth E. Smith (wife Cathy) of Attica, IN. and a sister, Ethel Malone of Monticello, IN. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren, Jim and Krista Smith; Cathy Wilson (husband Bruce) Adam Smith (wife Tiffany), Mary Turner (husband Bill) and Kris Pendleton (husband Roy); 10 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren, of which Hunter Turner and Haydon Smith were "her boys". Preceded in death by a daughter, Roselyn Smith in infancy, 2 brothers Roscoe and Irvin Eldridge; a sister Sarah Rhodes, and a special companion, Raymond Pruitt. Friends may call at the HAHN-GROEBER FUNERAL HOME, 1104 Columbia St. from noon until the service at 1:00 PM Wednesday, Rev. Dr. R. Clayton Kendall officiating. Interment Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.
