Irene Slagle

Irene C. Slagle, 86, of West Lafayette, passed away at IU Arnett Hospital in Lafayette 8:50 PM Tuesday January 5, 2021. She was born in Lafayette June 13, 1934, the daughter of the late Edward H. and Gertrude (Bossung) Deephouse and was a May 1952 graduate of St. Francis High School in Lafayette. Her marriage was to Richard E. Slagle at St. Lawrence Church in Lafayette November 22, 1956, and he preceded her on January 5, 1999. Her death occurred 22 years later and within two hours of his death. Irene was employed in the office at Sugar Mill Lake near Crawfordsville for many years. She was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Lafayette, a member of the Altar and Rosary Society at St. Ann’s and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Eagles Lodge. Irene enjoyed sewing, crocheting and knitting. Irene is survived by three sons, Donald F. Slagle (Cathy) of Romney, IN; Dennis W. Slagle (Belinda) of Rensselaer, IN; Douglas M. Slagle (Denise) of Lafayette, IN; a sister Esther Boes of Lafayette, IN as well as six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by one sister and one brother. A private family graveside service will be held at St. Boniface Cemetery in Lafayette with Fr. Dennis O’Keeffe officiating.
