Irene S. Meshfoff, 89, of Lafayette and formerly of Naples, Florida, died at St. Elizabeth Central Hospital 4:47 P.M. Friday November 13, 2009 after a brief illness. Born January 2, 1920 in Pittsburgh, PA., the daughter of the late Walter and Sophie Krasinski Sienski, she was a graduate of Northeastern High School in Detroit, MI., and attended Wayne State University in Detroit. She married Peter J. Meshkoff, Sr. June 29, 1940 in Detroit, MI. and he preceded her in death December 30, 1993. Mrs. Meshoff's husband was an executive with DuPont , and because of the that, she and her family traveled quite extensively, and lived in many locations, including Luxemburg, Tokyo, Vienna and Moscow. She moved to Lafayette in 2007 to be close to her daughter, Marianne Melville of Lafayette. Mrs. Meshkoff spoke 5 languages, and was a member of the American College Women's Club; St. Williams Catholic Parish of Naples, FL.; a member of the Ikebana Club of Naples, FL.; was a founding member of the Naples Scrabble Club, and served as an adult education instructor at the Naples Community College Extension. Survving are 3 daughters, Marianne Melville (husband Richard) of Lafayette, IN.; Nancy Jean Meshkoff of Tokyo, Japan; Susan M. Greaney (husband David) of Bedford, New Hampshire; 2 sons, Peter J. Meshkoff, Jr. (wife Elizabeth) of Houston, Texas; Mark W. Meshkoff of Naples, Florida and a brother Theodore S. Sienski of Ft. Myers, FL. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren. Preceded in death by a brother, Chester Sienski, and a sister Virginia G. Sienski. Family services will be held in Naples, Florida at a later date.
