Howard W. Sturgeon, 86, of Oxford passed away on Monday, March 26, 2018 at University Place in West Lafayette. He was born September 29, 1931 in Benton County to George and Ella (Brummett) Sturgeon. On December 26, 1953, he married Jean Caylor.
Howard’s life was focused on Faith, Family, Friends and Farming. He was baptized June 28, 1942 and attended Oxford Church of Christ his entire life serving as teacher, deacon, trustee and elder until his passing. Howard was a fervent supporter of missionaries throughout the world. He and Jean traveled to Poland with granddaughters Jennifer and Amanda in 1998. Howard was an encouragement and Christian example throughout his life.
Howard is survived by his wife, Jean, and son Steve, daughter Cindy Sanow (Ed), and sons Jeff and Doug (Jeannine); grandchildren Jennifer Tauziac (James), Amanda Gleissner (Daniel), Daniel (Lexi), Andrew and Jessica Benn (Jeff); great grandchildren Ahmed, Asiya, Eli, Theodore and Oscar. Howard was devoted to his family and blessed to spend many hours enjoying his grand and great grandchildren. A sister, Wilma Wagoner also survives. In addition to his parents, Howard was preceded in death by sisters Alta, Velma, Stella, Lois, Pauline Greenberg, Georgianna Fairfield; and brother Alva.
Howard graduated from Otterbein High School. He began farming at the age of 16 with the purchase of a tractor, disc and plow and never retired. Howard and Jean owned and operated H&J Farm Center in the 60’s selling ag supplies. He also managed 3 fertilizer plants while maintaining his farming operation.
Every person Howard met he considered a friend. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 from 5:00 until 8:00 and funeral services Thursday March 29th 10:30 at the Oxford Church of Christ. Minister Larry McMillan will officiate. Hahn-Groeber Funeral home in Oxford is assisting the family. If desired, memorials may be made to the Oxford Church of Christ or charity of choice.
