Herman Kamp

December 14, 1925 — November 4, 2011

Herman Richard Kamp, age 85, of Lafayette died peacefully on November 4, 2011 at home from complications of cancer.
Born on December 14, 1925, in Lafayette, he graduated from Lafayette Jefferson High School and then attended business school at Purdue University where he graduated in 1948. He was an active member of the Sigma Chi fraternity.
Mr. Kamp enlisted in the Marines and served during the Korean conflict. In 1953, he began working for Uarco Incorporated in business forms sales and was named Salesman of the Year in 1972. He continued to work for Uarco until his retirement in 1992.
In 1959, he married Dorothy Deane Werner and together they joyfully raised three children. He was a long-time member of St. Mary Cathedral Parish. He actively gave his time and talents to others participating in multiple volunteer organizations including Kiwanis International and Caregiver Companions.
He was an avid Boilermaker fan and enjoyed life in many ways. Dick cared deeply for family, friends and faith. His kindness and keen sense of humor brightened everyone's day.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Deane Kamp and his sister, Dorothy Anne Fischer. Surviving are son, Timothy J. Kamp (wife Mary) of Madison, WI; son, Michael J. Kamp (wife Mei) of Chicago, IL; daughter, Carolyn A. Kamp of Lafayette; and grandsons, William J. and Michael A. Kamp of Madison WI.
The Rosary service will be held at 2:45 PM, with visitation from 3:00-6:00 pm at Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home on Sunday Nov. 6, 2011 and funeral Mass at St. Mary Cathedral at 10:30 a.m. on Monday Nov. 7, 2011. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Caregiver Companions, Lafayette Catholic Schools or the American Heart Association are welcomed in care of Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home, 1104 Columbia St, Lafayette, IN 47901.
