Herman Dragt

March 30, 1926 — January 29, 2015

Herman H. Dragt, 88, of Pine Village, IN. died at Williamsport Nursing and Rehab Center in Williamsport, IN. Thursday January 29, 2015 at 8:22 AM. He was born March 30, 1926 in Chicago, IL, the son of the late John and Henrietta Vander Leest Dragt. Herman married Marjorie Henning on October 9, 1948 in Chicago, and she survives. During World War II, he served in the US Navy. For several years, he worked in industry as a tool and die designer. After attending Western Theological Seminary, he was ordained into the gospel ministry in 1955, serving churches in Monroe, SD, Fulton, IL, Hammond, IN, Lafayette, IN, Clinton, WI and Kings, IL and officially retired in October, 1990. After his retirement, he served as assistant minister at Pine Village United Methodist Church. He also served as a volunteer host at a national forest campground in Montana for ten years and as a host at a Christian family campground in Illinois for five years. Herman enjoyed wood carving, camping and playing golf. Mourning his loss along with his wife are five children: William Dragt of Burns, OR, Larry Dragt (wife Cindy) of Oakwood Hills, IL, Cindy Anderson of Lafayette, IN, John Dragt of Thornville, OH and Judith Talbert (husband Steve) of Pine Village, IN along with seven grandchildren. Friends may call at the Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home, 102 W. Luin St. in Oxford IN from 11 AM until the service at 12 PM Monday February 9, Rev. Dr. Albert Vander Meer officiating, with the American Legion of Fowler providing military rites. If friends desire, memorials may be made to the Reformed Church in America World Service Fund.
