Hellen Batina

Hellen N. Batina, 92, of Lafayette, died at Creasy Springs Healthcare in Lafayette 1:45 AM Sunday May 7, 2017 where she had been a patient since January. Hellen was born April 11, 1925 in Berwyn, IL, the daughter of the late George J. and Verena Fern Martin Neher. She was a graduate of the Nazareth Academy in LaGrange, IL and received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Purdue University School of Science in 1945. Hellen married Raymond T. Batina in LaGrange, IL August 11, 1951 and he preceded her in death September 22, 2013. Hellen and Raymond had resided in Lafayette since 1998, moving to Lafayette from Homewood, IL. She was a member of St. Mary Cathedral; the Serra Club at St. Mary’s; the Altar and Rosary Society and the Bible study group. Hellen was an artist, painting with oils, and enjoyed reading, quilting and sewing. Surviving are three sons, Raymond G. Batina of Pullman, WA; John T. Batina (wife Maxine) of Williamsburg, VA and William P. Batina of Carmel, NY and a daughter, Sally F. Middlesworth (husband Mark) of Marion, IN. Also surviving are four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, George M. Neher and William R. Neher and by a daughter-in-law, Lori Batina. Friends may call at St. Mary Cathedral from 10:30 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 AM Friday May 12, Fr. Jeff Martin and Fr. Robert Klemme officiating, with entombment following at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to Caregiver Companion, 612 Wabash Ave., Lafayette, IN 47905.
