Helen Katherine (Cook) Sweeney, 92, of West Lafayette passed away on Monday July 16, 2018 at the Indiana Veterans Home where she had resided the past two years. She was born in Throop, PA., to the late Casmir and Catherine Gwizda Cook on September 2, 1925. She was a 1944 graduate of the Cerilian Academy and later went on to graduate from Parson’s School of Design in New York City. Professionally, Helen was a designer at Little Women in New York City for several years. Her marriage was to Thomas Francis Sweeney, Jr. May 31, 1958 in Bala-Cynwyd, PA and he preceded her in death Sept. 29, 2006. Before moving to Lafayette, Helen was a member at Sacred Heart Parish in Mount Ephraim, NJ. In her spare time, Helen enjoyed playing bingo, arts & crafts, and making dresses, especially for her daughter. Surviving is one daughter, Karen (Chuck) Huff of Lafayette and one brother, Henry “Hank” Cook of Philadelphia. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters Anne Schuda, and Marie Sadowski. Friends may call at St. Mary Cathedral from 10 A.M. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 A.M. Friday July 20, Fr. Dominic Petan officiating. A private family interment will take place at a later date at Eglington Cemetery in New Jersey.
