Helen Mcbroom

Helen L. McBroom, 86, of Lafayette, died at St. Mary's Healthcare Center in Lafayette 10:49 PM Wednesday December 3, 2008. She had been in ill health the past 4 years with cancer and Parkinson's Disease. Born in Lafayette April 4, 1922, the daughter of the late James B. and Lucille Carbary Dooley, she was a life long Lafayette resident. She attended St. Mary's Grade School, and graduated from Lafayette Jefferson High School in 1940. On June 5, 1946, she married Thomas H. McBroom at St. Mary's Cathedral in Lafayette, and he preceded her in death January 1, 1975. Mrs. McBroom was a homemaker, but following her husband's death, she worked for West Lafayette High School as a cashier from 1976 until 1996, and did volunteer work at the Lafayette Senior Center. She was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral and a former member of the Altar and Rosary Society. Surviving are 2 daughters, Janet M. Barnes and Jody Dixon (husband Tom) both of Lafayette, and a son, Michael Winslow of Apple Valley, MN. Also surviving are 2 grandchildren, Kristine Dixon-Dalton and Tommy Dixon; and 3 great-grandchildren, Madeline & Samuel Dalton and Preston Dixon. Friends may call at the HAHN-GROEBER FUNERAL HOME, 1104 Columbia St., Lafayette from 9 until 9:45 AM Saturday. Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 AM Saturday. St. Mary's Cathedral, Fr. Ambrose Ziegler officiating. Interment St. Mary's Cemetery.
