Helen Hession

Helen E. Hession, 63, of Lafayette died at Rosewalk Village in Lafayette following a brief illness. Helen was born in Lafayette March 20, 1952, the daughter of the late George and Frances Jarka Hession, and was a 1970 graduate of Lafayette Central Catholic High School. She was employed by the City of Lafayette Police Department in the records division for over 25 years, retiring in 2008 and had also been employed by H & R Block for 33 years. Helen was a lifelong active member of St. Mary Cathedral in Lafayette, being a member and current secretary of the Altar and Rosary Society; a member of the Parish Council; a member of the choir and a cantor and a former chairperson and member of the Outreach Committee. She was a member of the Haiti Committee and traveled there several times; served on the Seeds of Hope Concert Committee for Haiti, volunteered for Habitat for Humanity and volunteered for the American Cancer Society and the Relay for Life. Surviving is a son, Brian Hayden (wife Tara) and their daughters, Anna and Rebecca of Louisville, KY; five sisters, Mary Frances Hession, Winter Haven, FL; Theresa Caldwell, Fayetteville, GA; Ann Louise Mauck (Greg), Savannah, TN; Alice Hession, Halethorpe, MD; Margaret "Margie" Goodman )Joe), Winamac, IN; five brothers, George A. Hession (Rose) Royal Palm Beach, FL; Edward "Matt" Hession, Alexandria, IN; Robert "Bob" Hession (Theresa), West Lafayette, IN; James "Jim" Hession, Indianapolis, IN; Paul Hession, Huntsville, AL; and by 74 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Veronica Parks. The Rosary will be recited at 4 PM followed by visitation until 7 PM Thursday January 21 at St. Mary Cathedral. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM Friday January 22, Fr. Jeff Martin and Fr. Robert Klemme officiating. Memorials may be made to the Seeds of Hope, c/o St. Mary Cathedral; the American Cancer Society or the 150th Anniversary Celebration of St. Mary Cathedral.
