Geraldine Rose (Jerri) Niemantsverdriet, born on July 27th 1926 in Logansport IN, to John & Anna DeRosa, went home to be with her Lord on Dec 28th 2020, one day after what would have been her 73rd wedding anniversary to her husband, Bud, who preceded her in death 3 and a half years ago. She was also preceded by four siblings and a daughter, Mary Jo Hardebeck. Bud & Jerri were married on Dec 27th 1947, the year she graduated from St Elizabeth Nursing School. They settled in Lafayette, IN, where after raising her 3 children to school age, she returned to work & furthered her education earning a BS in nursing. She worked at Home Hospital, becoming the Head Nurse of the Emergency Department, & ultimately Director of the Emergency, Ambulance, & Out Patient Departments. She was active in family & community service throughout her lifespan: a 49 year volunteer for the Red Cross, clinical instructor at Ivy Tech, served in various capacities for the Task Force for Emergency Nursing, community Drug Abuse Programs, Tippecanoe County Heart Association, Lafayette Area Catholic Schools Foundation, State Nurses Association, Home Hospital Association, Lafayette Firefighters Auxiliary, The Tippecanoe Right to Life Organization & others, all while raising & actively being there for her immediate and extended family. Surviving & missing her are two sons, Phil & David (wife Cindy), 13 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 4 great great-grandchildren, and many other extended family. Friends may call at St. Mary Cathedral from 10:00 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM Monday January 4, Fr. Dennis O’Keefe officiating. Interment will follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens. Masks are required and social distancing will be observed. Memorials may be made to the Tippecanoe County Chapter of the American Red Cross.
