Gerald Brouwer

Gerald D. Brouwer, 67, of Lafayette, died at Indiana University Arnett Hospital 3:45 PM Sunday April 15, 2011, where he had been a patient since Friday after suffering an apparent heart attack.
Gerald was born in Lafayette February 27, 1945, the son of the late Charles Lewis and Ruth F. Klaverenga Brouwer, and was a 1964 graduate of Lafayette Jefferson High School.
He married Peggy Ann Stephenson in Lafayette at St. Boniface Catholic Church January 25, 1969, and she survives.
Gerald worked at Rea Magnet Wire 41 years, retiring in 2011.
He served in the US Army from 1965 until 1967 during the Viet Nam War, and was a member of American Legion Post 11.
Surviving with his wife is a daughter, Karen J. Kauffman of Lafayette; a son, Michael A. Brouwer (wife Suzannah) of Paris, IL.; 6 brothers, Charles Brouwer (wife Betty); James Brouwer (wife Pat); Thomas Brouwer (wife Sandy); George Brouwer (wife Pat) all of Lafayette; Kenneth Brouwer (wife Rena) of Delphi, IN.; Henry Brouwer (wife Suzann) of Buck Creek, IN.; a sister Ruth Anne Hawk( husband Bill) of Greenville, TN.; and a sister-in-law Carolyn Brouwer of Lafayette. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren, Stephanie, Ashley and Johnathan Kauffman; Madelyn and Matthew Brouwer; and 2 great-grandchildren, Zoey Akins and Gerrard Fields. He was preceded in death by his twin brother, John Henry Brouwer.
Friends may call at the Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home, 1104 Columbia St. from 9:30 AM until the service at 11:00 AM Thursday, Rev. Joeseph Park officiating. Entombment in Tippecanoe Memory Gardens Mausoleum with American Legion Post 11 military rites. If friends desire. memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
