Evelyn Ulrich

Evelyn Rose Ulrich, 82, of Lafayette, died at IU Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette 9:33 PM Thursday March 1, 2012. She had been in ill health since October 6, 2008.
Evelyn was born in Lafayette February 19, 1930, the daughter of the late Frederick and Lillian Flynn Smith, and was a graduate of St. Francis High School.
She married William G. "Bill" Ulrich, Jr. at St. Mary's Cathedral June 25, 1949, and he survives.
Evelyn was a homemaker and daycare provider to hundreds of children, many who lovingly referred to her as "mother". She was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral; the Red Hat Society; and enjoyed playing bingo and reading cookbooks.
Surviving with her husband are 3 daughters, Janet L. (husband Roger) Shaw of Attica, IN.; Lisa L. Ulrich (partner Tina) of Greenville, S.C.; Laura L. (husband Robert) Anthrop of West Lafayette, IN.; a son, William L. (wife Debbie) Ulrich of Lafayette, IN.; and an "adopted" daughter, Lavonne Summers of Lafayette; 4 sisters, Helen Dewey of Lafayette, IN.; Dolores Bolander (husband Louis) of Independence, IN.; Rena Mennen (husband Richard) of Lafayette, IN.; and Catherine Ferguson (husband Kenneth) of Lafayette, IN. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Evelyn was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandy Ulrich, and an infant brother.
Friends may call from 3 until 6 PM Sunday at the Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home, 1104 Columbia St., Lafayette, with Rosary service at 2:45 PM Sunday. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary's Cathedral 10:30 AM Monday, Fr. Andrew DeKeyser officiating, with interment in St. Mary's Cemetery.
