Ermil M. Spurgeon, 93, of Linden, IN. formerly of Monon, IN. died at the Ben Hur Nursing Home in Crawfordsville, IN. 1:10 AM Tuesday July 13, 2010. Born at Wolcott, IN. August 14, 1916, the daughter of the late James T. and Margaret E. Armstrong Lilly, she attended Wolcott schools and had lived in Monon most of her life, residing in Linden the past 31 years. She first married Garold I. Spencer at Wolcott in 1931, and he died in 1942. She later married Joseph T. Spurgeon in 1946, and they later divorced. Mrs. Spurgeon was a member of the First Baptist Church in Monon; the 4 M's in Linden; and had received an award from Lafayette Home Hospital for making and providing over 500 dolls a year for several years to assist doctors in treating children. She enjoyed painting, writing poetry and played the piano, organ and harmonica. Mrs. Spurgeon was a seamstress and also did housekeeping for many families through the years. Surviving are a daughter, Essie K. Lutes of Indianapolis, IN.; 2 sons, Dallas D. Spurgeon (wife Alma) of Worth, Arkansas and Roger G. Spurgeon (wife Judy) of Kingman, IN.; and a sister Margaret Rose Brettman of Westville, IN. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by 2 sons, Calvin Duane Spencer and Paul Robert Spurgeon, as well as 1 sister and 5 brothers. Private family services will be held.
