Elsie Allen

After a full life focused on her loving family and friends, Elsie Allen of Linden, IN passed away on July 10th, 2018 at the age of 107. She was preceded in death by husband Ernest Allen, siblings Minnie (Russell), Roy, Harold, Nellie (Woodard), and Dale, and son-in-law Don Fugate. Elsie was born on October 29th, 1910 to Emma and Harold McDonald in Alvin, IL. In 1930 she was married to Ernest Allen, a farmer and later an employee of Tipmont. In her younger years, Elsie enjoyed playing piano. She also took pleasure in socializing and crafting. Elsie had an affinity for playing cards. She didn’t consider losing an option and didn’t generally need to. She operated a popular Linden restaurant named Elsie’s Café, open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, but late on nights of Linden High School basketball games, where Elsie’s was THE place to go for post-game burgers and fries. Later she worked as a cook at Purdue University. Elsie was a 75-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a lifelong member of the Linden United Methodist Church. Elsie is survived by devoted daughter, Louise (Don) Fugate, grandsons Bill (Sue) Fugate, Bob (Patty) Fugate, Dave (Shari) Fugate, and Dick (Roxie) Fugate. She was the great-grandmother of eight and great-great grandmother of six. Also surviving is sister Betty (Mark) Meeker. Visitation will be held at the Linden United Methodist Church in Linden, IN from 10:00 AM until the funeral service at 12:00 PM Saturday July 14, Rev.
