Elizabeth Shields

Elizabeth Louise Shields, 80, of Lafayette, formerly of Ambia, IN. died at 9:15 AM in Regency Place Tuesday March 30, 2010 where she had been a patient the past 8 days. Born September 29, 1929 in Ambia, IN. the daughter of the late Lewis N. and Minnie Huckelberry Metzinger, she had resided in Lafayette for 62 years. She was a graduate of Ambia High School and a 1950 graduate of the St. Elizabeth School of Nursing. Mrs. Shields was employed at St. Elizabeth Hospital as a registered nurse 40 years, retiring in 1992. She married Daniel L. Shields, Sr. at Dunnington, IN. January 24, 1951 and he preceded her in death August 22, 1996. Mrs. Shields was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, and volunteered at the Lafayette Community Health Clinic. Surviving are 2 daughters, Rebecca L. Dilworth (husband David) of Howell, MI.; Barbara Shields-Cox of Kokomo, IN.; 3 sons, Daniel L. Shields, Jr., Dennis L. Shields (wife Donna) and David L. Shields all of Lafayette, IN. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by 3 brothers and 3 sisters. Friends may call at the HAHN-GROEBER FUNERAL HOME, 1104 Columbia St. from the Rosary at 3:45 until 7:00 PM Monday. Mass of Chrisitian Burial 10:30 AM Tuesday, St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Fr. Daniel Gartland officiating. Interment, St. Mary's Cemetery at Dunnington.
