Miss Eleanor Kathryn Kiel, 84, of Lafayette, died at St. Anthony Healthcare in Lafayette where she had resided since April 2012. Eleanor was born in Louisville, KY February 27, 1932, the daughter of the late Wiley G. and Minnette Hicks Kiel. She was a 1950 graduate of New Albany, (IN) High School, a 1955 graduate of Purdue University, receiving her Bachelor’s Degree, and received her Master’s Degree from Indiana University in 1957. Eleanor taught third grade for the Lafayette School Corporation at Murdock School for 40 years, having retired at the end of the school year in 1997. She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, a life member of the National Education Association, a member of the Indiana State Teachers Association, the Retired Teachers Association, life member of both the Purdue University and Indiana University Alumni Associations, a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma International Society, Kappa Delta Phi Soroity, Sigma Kappa Alumni, Indiana School Women’s Club and the Daughters of Isabella. Surviving along with several cousins are friends and caregivers Mike Simpson, Diana Simpson, and Ashley Gregory (Michael) all of Lafayette.
