Eileen F. Hilt, 81, of Lafayette, died unexpectedly at St. Elizabeth East Hospital in Lafayette at 4:30 PM Monday July 11, 2016. Eileen was born in Lafayette May 24, 1935, the daughter of the late Herman J. and Dorothy C. Kochert Schrader. She attended St. Lawrence Grade School, was a graduate of St. Francis High School and a graduate of the St. Elizabeth Hospital School of Nursing. Eileen retired after 40 years of service as a surgical nurse at St. Elizabeth Hospital. She married Russell A. Hilt at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Lafayette February 16, 1957, and he survives. Eileen was a member of St. Lawrence Church, and was extremely active in her church and loved her church family. She was also a member of the Legion of Mary, St. Lawrence Couples Club, Cursietas and Ultraya, St. Lawrence Mothers Club, Secular Franciscans, Central Catholic Mothers Club and the Association of Operating Room Nurses. Eileen loved to quilt, and made lap quilts for nursing home residents, quilts for Hispanic farm families in Michigan, as well as quilts for the homeless and for the needy in Appalachia. She also made thousands of Rosaries for missions and for the incarcerated. Surviving with her husband are five daughters, Theresa Hilt of Cedar Grove, NC; Anna Cook of Grovetown, GA; Elizabeth Bentlage (Mark) of Monticello, IN; Lisa Puckett (Johnny) of Atlanta, GA; Lori Ringer (Dale) of Chalmers, IN; a son, Mark Hilt (Cindy) of Greenville, SC; five brothers, James Schrader (Barbara) of Lafayette, IN; Richard Schrader (Paulene) of Lafayette, IN; Joseph Schrader (Carolyn) of Greensboro, NC; Robert Schrader (Pat) of Greensboro, NC; Michael Schrader (Patricia) of Phoenix, AZ and a sister, Sally Schrader (Helen Lynn) of Orange, CA. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 3 grandchildren. The Rosary will be recited at 3:30 PM followed by visitation from 4 until 7 PM Friday July 15 at the Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home, 1104 Columbia St., Lafayette. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 1916 Meharry St, Lafayette at 10:30 AM Saturday, July 16, Fr. Eric Underwood officiating with inurnment in St. Boniface Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to either St. Lawrence Church or Lafayette Catholic Schools.
