Edith Padilla

Edith Perez Padilla, 88, of Lafayette, formerly of Miami, Florida, died at her residence 1:10 AM Wednesday January 26, 2011. Mrs. Padilla had resided in the Lafayette area for the past 3 years, having resided in Miami, FL. for many years. She was born in Cardenas, Cuba December 28, 1922, the daughter of the late Felix and Agueda (Cabrea) Cruz Alvarez, and graduated from high school in Cuba and received her Bachelors Degree in Education from Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN. Her marriage was to Manuel Perez Padilla in Cardenas, Cuba May 20, 1944, and he preceded her in death February 5, 2008. Mrs. Padilla was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral in Lafayette; St. Raymond's Catholic Church in Miamai, Fl and a member of the Coral Gables Country Club, Coral Gables, FL. Surviving are 3 daughters, Edith Carrillo (husband Hector) of Mexico City, Mexico; Judith Linzie (husband Ernest) of Atlanta, GA.; Vivian Leuck (husband Don) of Lafayette, IN.; and by 3 sisters, Mary Cruz Alvarez and Jenny Cruz Alvarez, both of Miami, FL; and Eva Oti of Richmond, VA. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, Iliana Carrillo, Brian Phillips, Tito Carrillo, Michelle Phillips, Ivan and Alex Carrillo, Kelly Hamby, Victoria Leuck, Amy, Lauren, Jordan and Andrew Linzie; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 1 brother and 5 sisters. Friends may call at the Caballero Rivero Woodlawn Funeral Home, Miami, Fl. from 7 until 9 PM Friday. Mass of Christian Burial 12:30 PM Saturday, St. Juan Bosco Catholic Church, Miami, with interment to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
