James W. Bayley, D.D.S., F.A.G.D., G.A.C.D., F.I.C.D.
Jim was born July 29, 1939 in Lafayette to Richard D. Bayley and Elizabeth G. Bayley. He married Eileen Stapleton in Chicago in 1961 and they have 4 children, Beth, Pat (Jill), Rich (Wendy) and Bill (Sue). He is the proud grandparent to 12 grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Beth Kuczkowski (Joe) of Waterford, WI. He is preceded in death by a brother Richard Bayley and a sister Mary Ann Heath.
Jim graduated from St. Mary’s grade school, Campion Jesuit high school (Wisconsin), Loyola of Chicago and Indiana Dental School. He served two years in the Navy at Camp Lejeune, NC. He was a member of the Lafayette Serra Club, American Dental Society, Indiana Dental Society, West Central Dental Society. He was the recipient of the Sagamore of the Wabash.
Jim served as president of the Indiana Board of Dental Examiners and as a trustee of the Indiana Dental Association. He was awarded fellowship in the American College of Dentists, as well as the International College of Dentists. He was a fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry and a founding member of the Lafayette Study Club, a branch of the Seattle Study Club. He was very active in many community organizations. He was past president of the Lafayette Country Club. Outside of his family, he enjoyed mentoring other dentists, playing with his HO model trains, and researching family genealogy. He authored the History of the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception. Jim (Dr. Bayley, loving Husband, Dad and Grandpa) touched a lot of lives and will be sorely missed.
Friends may call at St. Mary Cathedral from 5 until 8 PM Thursday. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary Cathedral at 10:30 AM Friday, Fr. Jeff Martin officiating, with military honors by American Legion Post 11.
