Dr. Franklin Spain, Jr.

Franklin L. Spain, Jr., MD, 55, Lafayette, IN, passed away December 13, 2016 with his loving wife at his bedside. He was born in Aurora, IL on April 3, 1961, the son of Franklin and Beverly Spain. Franklin was a 1979 graduate of Reitz High School in Evansville, IN. He also graduated from Indiana State University Evansville (University of Southern Indiana) and the Indiana University School of Medicine. Dr. Spain completed his general surgery residency at the Cleveland Clinic. He retired after many years as a general surgeon. Franklin was preceded in death by his parents. On February 14, 2004, he married Terri Spain, and she survives. Franklin is also survived by his step-daughters, Haley, Kenzie, and Aubree; his grandchildren, Emery and Kash; his siblings, Jeff Spain (Laurie), and Jason Spain (Anne); his niece, Luci Spain; his nephew, Loden Spain; his mother-in-law, Marty Deitrick; his sister-in-law, Tina Deitrick; and his brother-in-law, Jeff Deitrick (Pam). A memorial visitation will be on Saturday, December 17 from 2:00-4:00 P.M. at Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home, 1104 Columbia Street, Lafayette, IN 47901. Memorial gifts may be made to the Indiana University School of Medicine or The ALS Association, Gift Processing Center, PO Box 6051, Albert Lea, MN 56007. Arrangements have been entrusted to Flanner and Buchanan- Zionsville and Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home, Lafayette.
