Dorothy Hertel

Dorothy M. Hertel, 94, of Lafayette and formerly of Cutler, IN. died at St. Mary's Healthcare Center in Lafayette 9:45 A.M. Tuesday May 20, 2008, where she had been a patient for the past 3 years. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio July 14, 1913, the daughter of the late Louis F. and Rose Schwing Handel, she was a 1932 graduate of West Night High School in Cinicnnati. She married Clarence J. Hertel at Kokomo, IN. May 9, 1942 and he preceded her in death December 20, 1995. Mrs. Hertel had worked for the U.S. Postal Servie at Cutler from July 1, 1970 until Jan. 6, 1976. She was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Lafayette, and a former member of St. Joseph Catholic Church at Delphi, IN. as well as St. Joseph's Rosary and Altar Society. Surviving are a daughter, with whom she had resided, Judith M. Hertel of Lafayette; and 2 sons, Donald L. Hertel and Clarence J. Hertel, Jr. (wife Joyce) both of Lafayette. Friends may call from the time of the Rosary at 4:45 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Friday at the HAHN-GROEBER FUNERAL HOME, 1104 Columbia St. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Lawrence Catholic Church 10:00 A.M. Saturday, Fr.Ambrose Ziegler, celebrant and Fr. Dan Gartland, concelebrant officiating. Interment Rossville Cemetery. Also surviving are 3 grandchildren. Preceded in death by a daughter, 2 brothers and a sister.
