Don Fugate

Don William Fugate, 84 of Linden, Indiana, died Thursday morning, December 2, 2010, at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lafayette, Indiana.

He was born November 3, 1926, at Lafayette, Indiana, to late William and Pearl (Peterson) Fugate, and was an only child.

At the age of 13, his father passed away, and Don and his mother continued the family farm.

He graduated from Linden High School in 1944.

He married Gustava Louise Allen, on February 12, 1950, in Linden, Indiana; she survives, having been married 60 years.

On November 22, 1950, they had their first son, William, followed by Robert, David and Richard. Don lived in the same house all his life and did what he loved best, raising livestock and raising crops. Even this past fall, Don continued to drive tractors and helped move equipment from field to field to stay involved in farming.

He is survived by four sons, William (Sue) Fugate, Linden, Indiana; Robert (Patricia) Fugate, Norcross, Georgia; David (Shari) Fugate, Linden, Indiana; and, Dick (Roxie) Fugate, Crawfordsville, Indiana.

Eight grandchildren, Byron W. (Kris) Fugate, Emily (Dennis) Toomey, Katie Fugate, Peter Fugate, John Fugate, Clayton Fugate, Joshua Manwaring and Zachary Manwaring. Step-grandchildren, Brad Payne and Amber Sipple. Two great grandchildren, William (Liam) Fugate and Keira Toomey.

He was a Charter Member of the Montgomery County Pioneer Association, former Madison Township Trustee, and a board member of the Kirkpatrick Grain Company.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Monday at Linden United Methodist Church, Linden, Indiana, with Rev. Patty Bymaster officiating.

Burial will be at Linden Cemetery, Linden, Indiana.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m., Sunday at Linden United Methodist Church, Linden, Indiana.
