Dennis R. Pickett, age 83, of Lafayette and formerly of Brazil, IN passed away at his residence in Lafayette 4:52 PM Wednesday February 15, 2023. He was born in Danville, IN September 25, 1939 the son of the late Gerald and Wayburn (Montgomery) Pickett Fitzsimons and was a graduate of Fillmore, IN High School. His first marriage was to Sonia L. Truesdel at Greencastle, IN May 3, 1958 and she preceded him in death February 17, 2008. He later married Marilyn Pickett in June 2009, and she survives. Dennis was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Brazil, IN and attended Cornerstone Baptist Church in Lafayette. He enjoyed appending time with his family, loved music and enjoyed dancing and playing cards. Professionally, Dennis was a truck driver, and owned his own trucking company. Surviving with his wife Marilyn are three daughters, Cathy Vauters (husband Pastor Mike) and Denise Lawson (husband Tim) all of Lafayette and Jennifer Nixon (husband Jeffrey) of Strykersville, NY. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, Jared (Angela) Pickett, Kasey Pickett and Andrew Pickett all of Crawfordsville, IN; Ryan (Carolyn) Vauters of Lafayette, IN, Dennis (Alcia) Vauters of Greenville, SC, Kelly (James) Roedding of Ft. Myers, FL; Paige S. Lawson, Ryann Hall of Westfield, IN, Lacey Lawson (fiancé Evan Rynearson of Brookston, IN, Gretchen Lawson of Lafayette, IN, Hannah (Garrett) Schmidt of Cowlesville, NY, Ethan Nixon of Alfred NY and Clayton Nixon of Strykersville, NY along with 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, Albert “Al” and Dennis Pickett. Friends may call at the Cornerstone Baptist Church, 2400 Edglea Drive, Lafayette, IN 47909 from 4:00 PM until the service at 5:00 PM Saturday Feb. 18, Pastor Mike Vauters, his son-in-law officiating. Interment will be held at a later date at Stilesville Cemetery, Stilesville, IN.
