Deacon John Raymond Jezierski

Deacon John Raymond Jezierski, age 76, passed away on February 8, 2025. He was born in Shakopee, MN, May 5, 1948, the son of the late Stephen and Helen (Benz) Jezierski. Deacon John married Judith (Sobczyk) Jezierski on September 24, 1976 in Riverdale, IL at the Queen of Apostles Catholic Church.

Deacon John graduated with his BSN from Loyola University of Chicago in 1971. He then continued his education by obtaining his MSN from Saint Xavier University in 1981. He went on to serve as the Director of the School of Nursing at Augustana in Chicago, IL from 1981-1984. He then moved to the Greater Lafayette area and served as the Director of St. Elizabeth’s School of Nursing, until his retirement in 2016. Amongst his many accolades and achievements while serving as Director for 32 years, he headed many mission trips to Haiti, not only to teach, but to serve the church. Deacon John was ordained as a Deacon on September 20, 2008. He and his wife were devoted members of St. Mary’s Cathedral & St. Ann’s Catholic Church. As a couple they embarked on a life full of serving others as the national priest scheduling couple for Marriage Encounter from 1985 to 2012 and Deaconate formation leaders from 2008-2017 at St. Mary’s Cathedral. Deacon John was undeniably committed to his wife and a loving father and grandfather. Deacon John will be remembered as hardworking, dedicated to the church, and passionate. He would go to great lengths to lend a helping hand.

Deacon John is survived by his wife, Judith Jezierski of Plainfield, IN, formerly West Lafayette for 40 years; son, Justin Jezierski (Michelle) of Plainfield, IN; grandson, Jackson Jezierski of Plainfield, IN; brothers, George Jezierski (Marlene) of Blaine, MN and James Jezierski (Minnie) of St. Louis Park, MN; sister, Alice Tellers of Norwood-Young America, MN.

Deacon John was preceded in death by his sister, Doris Koepp; brothers-in-law, Richard Tellers and Robert Koepp.

The Rite of Reception will take place on Thursday, February 13, 2025 at 10:00 AM with visitation to follow until 2:00 PM at St. Mary’s Cathedral. Another visitation will take place on Friday, February 14, 2025 from 10:00 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM, all at St. Mary’s Cathedral. The interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Lafayette.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in memory of Deacon John Jezierski & Judith Jezierski. Contributions will support a scholarship fund to assist future nursing students in pursuing their education and carrying on the legacy of compassionate care.
