David Matthew Minniear, sixty-seven, died on July 16, 2021, while being treated in Indianapolis, IN for the Parkinson’s Disease which he had battled for over twelve years. He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Edward O. Minniear Sr and his mother, Maude Anna “Nan” Minniear.
Born and raised in Lafayette, David was a 1972 graduate of Central Catholic High School. While a student at Central Catholic, he excelled in sports, and was a varsity athlete in football, basketball and golf. His education continued at Purdue University, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree 1976. David later earned a Master's Degree in Education from Purdue University. During one of his college years, David played football for the Semi-Pro Lafayette Generals. His thirty-year career as an educator and coach began in Lebanon, IN. Shortly thereafter, he returned to his Lafayette hometown, where he taught and coached in Lafayette area schools. In 1986, David coached the William Henry Harrison School’s girls' basketball team to the Elite Eight. Later in 1986, he was appointed Athletic Director at Sunnyside School. For many years, along with teaching and coaching, David officiated in high school sports competitions. After some years in retirement, he moved permanently in 2018 to Venice, FL.
David, a devoted son and father, is survived by his son, Adam D. Minniear, and two grandchildren, Sean and Scarlet Minniear. Also surviving are his brother, Edward O. Minniear Jr (Sharon) Fredericksburg, VA, and his sister, Ann O’Connor (Lawrence) Indianapolis, IN. Three of his four nieces and one nephew survive him, along with several first cousins. David, an avid Purdue supporter, was also extremely fond of participating in sports, especially golf. Those who knew him will especially remember his sense of humor and his dedication to teach, coach and mentor. David's family and close friends, who knew him best of all, will always remember David with much love and affection.
Friends may call at Saint Mary Cathedral from 12:00 PM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 PM on Tuesday July 27, Fr. Dennis Faker officiating. Entombment will follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, friends may wish to make memorial contributions to the LSC Athletics Department.
