David Melville

David A. Melville, 71, of Lafayette, passed away at his residence surrounded by family Saturday May 13 at 6:28 PM. He was born in Lafayette August 9, 1945, the son of the late William L. and Margaret E. “Peg” Hasser and was life-long Lafayette resident. David was a graduate of Central Catholic High School in Lafayette, and was a graduate of Indiana Business College. He married Mary E. “Mimi” Nicholas at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Kokomo, IN July 8, 1972 and she survives. David served in the U.S. Air Force during the Viet Nam War. He was employed by Purdue Employees Credit Union for 30 years as facilities manager retiring in 2007. David was a member of St. Mary Cathedral, and served as a Eucharistic Minister and assisted with the RCIA program. He enjoyed camping and the mountains; was an avid IU Basketball and Notre Dame Football fan; and was a mental health advocate. David’s grandchildren and family events were the highlight of his life. Surviving with his wife is a daughter, Betsy Tuholski (husband Andy) of Lafayette; two sons, Joey Melville and David Jude Melville both of Lafayette; a sister, Jacquie Beckham (husband Steve) of Bradenton, FL and three brothers, Bill Melville (wife Brenda), Kim Melville and Tom Melville (wife Colleen) all of Lafayette. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren, Kylie Brooks, Zach, Mark and Sam Melville and Sophia Reed. He was preceded in death by a sister, Deb Arihood. The Rosary will be recited at 3:45 PM followed by visitation from 4 until 6 PM Friday May 19, at the Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home, 1104 Columbia St., Lafayette. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary Cathedral 10:00 AM Saturday May 20, Fr. Jeff Martin officiating, with inurnment to follow at St. Boniface Cemetery.
