David Deerr

David Joseph Deerr, 82, of Lafayette, passed away at 5:30 PM Friday June 25, 2022 at St. Anthony Rehabilitation and Nursing Care in Lafayette where he had been a patient the past 2 years. He was born in Lafayette August 6, 1939, the son of the late Herman Joseph and Jane Frances (Schneider) Deerr and was a 1957 graduate of Lafayette Jefferson High School. David married Donna K. McDowell at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Lafayette January 19, 1963 and she survives. He was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Lafayette and the Knight’s of Columbus. David was a mechanic and welder, and along with his wife, owned and operated Deerr’s Radiator shop in Lafayette for 33 years, retiring July 27, 2007. He enjoyed building and racing go-carts, spending time with his family and friends, and was an Indy 500, Indy Car and NASCAR fan. Surviving with his wife is a son, Daniel D. Deerr of Lafayette; a daughter, Susan E. Hancock of Lafayette; by four sisters, Diane Morgan (Arthur) of Lafayette, Elaine May of West Lafayette, Angie Scantlin (Mike) of Lafayette and Connie Patrick (Jim) of Mooresville, IN. Also surviving are four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by two sons, Joseph D. and Jeffrey B. Deerr. The Rosary will be recited at 3:30 PM Thursday June 30 followed by visitation until 7:00 PM at the Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home, 1104 Columbia St., Lafayette. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Lafayette Friday July 1 at 10:30 AM, Fr. Ted Dudzinski and Fr. Dennis Faker officiating. Interment will follow in St. Boniface Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Tippecanoe County Right to Life or Almost Home Humane Society.
