Clarice Dexter

Clarice Dexter, 85, passed away on September 17, 2024 at St. Anthony Healthcare. She was a loving, considerate woman who will be greatly missed.

Clarice was born in 1939 to Elma (Chenault) Zust and Roy Zust of Hammond, IN. After graduating from Lowell High School, she married Marvin Dexter of DeMotte, IN. During their 39 year marriage, the couple welcomed four children: Sheryl, Kerryl, Elizabeth and Richard. Clarice and Marv diligently trained their children in the way they should go (proverbs 22:6). Always industrious, Clarice at Benton Central High School, served as Clerk/Treasurer of Boswell, IN and also worked as a bank teller. As a member of the Boswell United Methodist Church, she participated in numerous activities benefitting the church and community.

Following her husband’s passing, Clarice moved from Boswell to West Lafayette, IN. She retired in 2001 and became a snowbird, splitting her time between Florida, Arizona and Indiana, Clarice enjoyed traveling both domestically and internationally, visiting family and friends near and far. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Other favorite pastimes included reading mystery books, baking delicious treats, and cheering on the Indianapolis Colts. Clarice loved attending fitness classes, and no one could keep her off the dance floor when her favorite music was playing. She excelled at finding bargains at the local thrift stores.

Clarice is preceded in death by her beloved husband Marvin (1997), her sister Delores and her brother Ronnie.

She is survived by her sister, Joan of Merrillville, IN, daughter Sheryl Gick and husband Greg Gick of Sun Lakes, AZ, daughter Kerryl Frandsen and husband Steve Frandsen of Granville, OH, daughter Elizabeth Dexter-Wilson and husband John Wilson of Corvallis, OR, and son Richard Dexter of West Lafayette, IN. Clarice has ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Clarice will be greatly missed by her family but we rejoice that she is safely with the Lord.

Friends may call at the Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home, 1104 Columbia St., Lafayette, IN from 5 until 7 PM Wednesday Sept. 25. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home 11:00 AM Thursday Sept 26, Pastor Gary Sims officiating. The interment will be held at Boswell Cemetery, Boswell, IN immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Franciscan Hospice would be appreciated.
