Charles E. "Chuck" Layden, 91, of Lafayette, died at St. Elizabeth Central Hospital 10:30 AM Friday April 9, 2010, where he had been a patient the past week. Born May 7, 1918,in West Point, Indiana the son of the late Michael J. and Estella Louise Griffin Layden, he was a graduate of Clarks Hill High School and attended Purdue University. He married E. Maxine Parvis in Lafayette June 17, 1939, and she preceded him in death June 7, 1997. Mr. Layden retired as a foreman in the extrusion department of Alcoa in 1976 after 37 years. He was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral, the ALCOA 25 year club and served as an usher at St. Mary's Cathedral for many years. Surviving is a daughter, Janice K. Layden of Lafayette; and 2 sons, Charles "Max" Layden (wife Lynn) of Lafayette and Ronald A. Layden of Brownsburg, IN. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by 3 brothers. Friends may call at the HAHN-GROEBER FUNERAL HOME, 1104 Columbia St. from the Rosary at 3:45 until 6:00 PM Sunday. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 AM Monday, St. Mary's Cathedral, Fr. Eric Underwood officiating. Interment St. Mary's Cemetery. If friends desire, memorials may be made to St. Mary's Cathedral.
