Charles L. Griffin, 83, of Lafayette, died at Home Hospital 6:20 P.M. Monday January 19, 2009. Mr. Griffin was born in Cincinnati, Ohio November 10, 1925, the son of the late Harvey and Elizabeth Griffin and had resided in the Lafayette area since 1961. He married Wilma M. Criswell in Lafayette November 20, 1948, and she preceded him in death November 15, 1993. Mr. Griffin attended West Point, IN. schools, and was a graduate of Watchmakers School in Kansas City, Mo. A retired watchmaker, he had owned and operated Griffin's Jewelry in West Lafayette from 1966 until his retirement in 1995. He had previously owned a jewelry store in Brookston, IN. and since his retirement, was doing work for Ram Z's Exchange. Mr. Griffin was a veteran of the US Navy, World War II, having served on the seaplane tender USS Hammlin. He was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral, the Knights of Columbus and a 4th Degree Knight; a member of American Legion Post 11 and VFW Post 1154; as well as a member of the Eagles Lodge and Moose Lodge. Surviving is a daughter, Mary Ann Griffin-Douglas (husband Terry Douglas) of Rockville, IN.; a son, Steven L. Griffin (wife Karla) of Lafayette and a brother, John Griffin, (wife Lela) of West Point, IN. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren as well as a special friend, Maywood Winger of Lafayette. Preceded in death by 1 brother and 4 sisters. Friends may call at the HAHN-GROEBER FUNERAL HOME, 1104 Columbia St., Lafayette from 4 until 7 PM Friday. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 AM Saturday, St. Mary's Cathedral, Fr. Dan Duff officiating.
