Charles Thomas Burns, 65, of West Lafayette passed away unexpectedly at Franciscan Health St. Elizabeth Hospital Emergency Room Wednesday September 27, 2017. He was born in Lafayette September 8, 1952, the son of the late Charles and Marybelle Louise James Burns. Charles was a graduate of Lafayette Central Catholic High School, attended Purdue University and was a graduate of Harrison College. He most recently was employed at the Alorica Training Center, and had previously been employed as a retail banker with Chase Bank had also worked as a store manager for Super America/Speedway Truck Stops as a manager. Charles was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church; was a member of the Knights of Columbus, 4th Degree; was a very devoted Boilermaker fan, being involved in and enjoying Purdue Football. He was an avid Indy Car fan and had been involved in cancer research fund raising. Surviving are uncles, William “Bill”, Sam and Jerry James, all of Delphi, IN; and by cousins, Wendy Kerssemakers of West Lafayette, Susan Kyle of TN, Rebecca Buckman of North Judson, Donna Dunlap of Seymour, Robert McKenzie of Flora, Sandy James of Delphi, Dale James of Delphi, Stacie Laurida of PA, Deloris Keller of Delphi, Roger James of Logansport and Heath James of OH. He was preceded in death by a sister in infancy. A memorial service will be held at the Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home, 1104 Columbia St., Lafayette at 1:00 PM Friday October 13, Fr. Ambrose Ziegler officiating, with inurnment to follow at St. Boniface Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home to help defray final expenses.
