Carolyn Joan Speer, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2025, at St. Mary's Healthcare Center. Born on August 23, 1939, in Lafayette, Carolyn's early years were spent in a loving environment, nurtured by her parents, Frank Russell Speer and Helen June Speer, both of whom have preceded her in death.
Carolyn moved to Florida at the age of 13 and graduated from South Broward High School in Hollywood, Florida. Her professional journey began with clerical work at Hollywood Memorial Gardens from 1957 to 1960. Carolyn continued to demonstrate her organizational skills and dedication through her role as a personal assistant and shopper at Loeb's from 1965 to 1973.
Carolyn was more than just her career; she was a devoted and kind-hearted individual, deeply committed to her faith as a member of St. John's Episcopal Church. Her faithfulness to the church and community was evident in her active participation and the many friendships she fostered throughout her life. In addition to her dedication to her church, she was proud to have served as the first woman president of the Lafayette Area Sertoma Club in 1975 and was an esteemed member of the Alpha Delta Chapter of Sigma Phi Gamma. Carolyn also served in a significant capacity with the Tippecanoe Area Personnel Association, helping to enhance the professional development in her community.
A loving caregiver, Courtenay Murakowski stood by her side during her final season of life, embodying the compassion that Carolyn shared throughout her life.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 25, 2025 at 11:00 AM, taking place at St. John's Episcopal Church, located at 600 Ferry St, Lafayette, IN 47901 officiated by Rev. Dr. Bradley Pace & Rev. Dr. Hilary Cooke. Carolyn Joan Speer leaves behind a legacy of kindness, community service, and unwavering faith, which will be remembered fondly by all whose lives she touched.
