Carol Jane Droege, 79, of Lafayette, passed away at IU Health on Thursday, August 29, 2024. Carol was born September 16, 1944, the daughter of the late Carl R. and Mary J. Fox in Indianapolis. She graduated high school from Scecina Memorial High School in 1962.
She was the S.T.A.R. party planner at the McDonald's on Sagamore, where she crafted memorable experiences for countless families. Her role as Assistant Activities Director at Saint Anthony's Healthcare in Lafayette showcased her passion for caring for others, allowing her to touch the lives of many in her community. Most recently, Carol enjoyed the fulfilling job of being a Crossing Guard for the Lafayette School Corporation, ensuring the safety of children and providing a friendly presence for the neighborhood. She found it funny to show people her badge that she got to wear, as a big & bad Crossing Guard.
Carol's optimistic personality was a source of inspiration, as she possessed the remarkable ability to see the good in everyone, fostering kindness and compassion in her interactions. Her heart was particularly drawn to animals; she devoted herself to rescuing sick animals, embodying the very essence of love and empathy for the weary. She was the epitome of an independent woman who could do it all on her own. Her all time favorite music was the Moody Blues Band.
A devoted mother, she is survived by her daughter, Diana (Tom) Cavanaugh of Lafayette, and her sons, Carl Droege of Lake Villa, Illinois, and Brian (Janet) Droege of Schaumburg, Illinois. Carol was a cherished sister to Robert (Sandy) Fox of Plainfield, Indiana, and a proud grandmother to Macy (Danny) Lullo, Ann Droege, Emily Droege, Blake Droege, Cecily Cavanaugh, and Patrick (Chantal) Cavanaugh. She eagerly awaited the arrival of her great-grandchild. Carol absolutely adored her grandchildren and was proud of each of them.
In honor of Carol, memorial contributions can be made to Food Finders Food Bank 1204 Greenbush St. Lafayette, IN 47904. Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home of Lafayette is honored to care for the Droege family. Please leave memories and condolences at hahngroeberfuneralhome.com
