Brian Jacob Slopsema, age 43, was born on November 11th, 1975 in Lafayette, Indiana, and passed away on January 20th, 2019. He was the first born child of Edward and Patricia Slopsema, and the older brother to Jason Slopsema. He grew up in Lafayette, Indiana, and graduated from Central Catholic Junior/Senior High School in 1994. He attended Purdue University graduating in 1998, and was forever a devoted Boilermaker.
While attending Purdue, he worked at Kirby Risk Inc. Upon graduating from Purdue he began his lifelong love affair with the airline industry. This began with ATA where he worked multiple positions. Upon their closing he began his own business, On the Spot Aviation. This lead to many grand adventures with dignitaries, presidential campaigns, professional sports teams, award winning musical performers, and transporting troops and their families. His greatest joy was bringing our military troops home safely. Many of these experiences were also because of his employment with Air Charter Team. He made all those that he had the pleasure of meeting through these experiences, and throughout his life, feel like they had known him forever, and were the best of friends.
He was an amazing son, brother, nephew, and uncle to his nieces and nephews, whom he loved furiously. He is survived by his parents, Edward and Patricia Slopsema, his younger brother Jason (wife Megan), nieces (Emerson and Quinn), nephews (Sawyer and Thatcher), grandfather, Donald Slopsema, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is preceded in death by maternal grandparents Conrad and Mary Gick, paternal grandmother Louise Slopsema, cousins, Jacob Stivers, Greg Cox, Theresa Hayes, and Samuel Hayes.
Friends may call at the Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home, 1104 Columbia St., Lafayette from 4:00 PM until the Wake Service at 6:45 PM Thursday Jan. 24. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Lawrence Catholic Church 10:30 AM Friday Jan. 25, Fr. Peter Vanderkolk officiating, with interment to follow in St. Boniface Cemetery.
