Betty Coburn

Betty K. Coburn, 84, of Lafayette, and formerly of San Diego, CA., died at Home Hospital Tuesday Sept. 18, 2008 at 2:20 A.M. where she had been a patient since Sept. 6. Born in Amboy, Indiana March 10, 1924, the daughter of the late Orly O. and Ruth Ellen Byrer Shropshire, Ms. Coburn had resided in Lafayette since 2001, moving here from San Diego, CA. Following the death of her mother when she was 3 years old, Ms. Coburn and her siblings were sent to reside at the Indiana Soldiers and Sailors Childrens Home near Knightstown, IN. where she was educated and graduated from Morton Memorial High School. She first worked for the Teamsters Union in San Diego, and later worked for the San Diego County, California welfare department for over 25 years, retiring in 1985. She enjoyed sports, especially the San Diego Chargers and the San Diego Padres. Surviving are 2 brothers, Robert E. "Bob" Shropshire of Lafayette and Howard C. Shropshire (wife Denise) of Peru, Indiana. It was Betty's request for a private inurnment of her remains at Rest Haven Memorial Park in Lafayette. She was preceded in death by 2 sisters.
