Bernard Neubauer

Bernard E. "Benny" Neubauer Jr., 78, of Lafayette died 3:20 pm Friday, September 4, 2009 at his residence. He was born August 19, 1931 to Bernard E. and Doris C. Haley Neubauer at St. Elizabeth Hospital. Benny attended St. Mary's Grade School and Lafayette Jefferson High School. He joined the Air Force on January 3, 1949 and served in Okinawa and Miyako before being discharged on October 1, 1952. He married Lucinda "Cindy" D. Hornbeck on March 8, 1952 in Lafayette and she survives.
He worked 20 years for Lehnen's Furniture, 10 years at both Loeb's Furniture and Michael's Furniture. He then worked 9 years at Mulhaupt's before retiring.
Benny was past Commander of VFW Post 3585, Soldier's Home. He was also Chairman of the St. Mary's Boy Scouts - Sycamore Scout Council, Catholic Scout Council. He was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral Parrish where he was an usher for over 50 years as well as a contribution counter and participant of other church functions.
Favorite pastimes were traveling and doing puzzles.
Surviving are 3 daughters,Terri Lester and Sanda Neubauer of Lafayette and Catherine Rooze (husband - Mike) of Attica, and a son, Bryon Neubauer (wife - Bobbie) of Lafayette. Also surviving are a sister, Diane Stombaugh (husband Francis) of Lafayette.
Friends may call from 4-8pm Wednesday with Rosary at 7:30 pm at Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home, Lafayette. Memorial Mass 10:00 am Thursday, September 10, 2009 at St. Mary's Cathedral with Fr. Eric Underwood officiating. Burial in St. Mary's Cemetery. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and two more great-grandchildren expected any minute. Preceded in death by sister, Betty Jane Hoke and two brothers, James "Jim" Neubauer and John Neubauer. Benny died peacefully surrounded by his wife and four children.
