Anna Dale

August 16, 1925 — May 10, 2012

Anna Margaret Clark Dale (Amy), age 86, of West Lafayette, IN, passed away the morning of May 10, 2012.

Amy was born in Staunton, VA, on Aug 16, 1925, to Anna Margaret Murphy Clark and Morrison MacDowell Clark. She was married to Robert F. Dale on Oct 28, 1949.

Amy was raised in Chevy Chase, MD, the daughter of the late Morrison M Clark and the late Blanch Griffith Clark, and sister of the late Julia M. Clark Miller. After her marriage to Robert F. Dale, Amy lived in Anchorage, AK; Palo Alto, CA; Ames, IA; Silver Spring, MD; finally settling in West Lafayette, IN, while raising five children.


Amy and Robert provided a home to many who needed it throughout the years. She was a 50 year PEO member, community volunteer, member of Faith Presbyterian Church, and a member of the Water Color Society of W. Lafayette, IN. With a BA in English from the University of MD, Amy had a number of jobs teaching English, but her true vocation was as an artist. She received an MA from Purdue University in ceramics, printmaking, and painting. Throughout her life, Amy's paintings were of her children, friends, animals, landscapes, and creative works from her imagination using both oils and watercolors. She received numerous awards for her paintings at both the local and state levels. Amy was known and loved by family and friends for her sense of humor and her amazing words of wisdom and advice.

She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Robert Frederick Dale; daughter Anne W. Dale Blair and Thomas Blair of Grand Rapids, MI; son Morrison Clark Dale and Leslie Thomas Dale of West Lafayette, IN; daughter Jacqueline G. Dale Broder and Michael Broder of Florence, AL; daughter Elizabeth MacDowell Dale of Allentown, PA: son John Frederick Dale and Kathy Dalsimer Dale of West Point, IN, and 17 grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 4:30 pm, May 19, 2012, at Faith Presbyterian Church, 3318 State Road 26 West, West Lafayette, IN, 47906 with Pastor David Horner officiating.
