Alice M. Buckles Ray, 83, of Linden, died at St. Elizabeth Medical Center 2:25 A.M. Tuesday October 28, 2008, where she had been a patient since Saturday. Born March 21, 1925 in Parke County Indiana, the daughter of the late John H. and Mary M. Reeder Gross, she had previously resided in Attica and for the past 3 months had been a patient at the Indiana Veterans Home in West Lafayette. She first married Robert E. Buckles at Lafayette, IN. January 14, 1948 and he died June 20, 1967. She later married John Ray September 11, 1971, and he preceded her in death January 12, 1997. Mrs. Ray was a graduate of Greene Township High School in Parke County, and was a member of the New Hope Church in Wingate, IN. She also was a member of the Telephone Pioneers, the Wingate Extension Club and the Ladies Afternoon Circle at Wingate. She had worked for Bell Telephone in various capacities for over 25 years. Surviving are 4 daughters, Sharon Townsend of Oxford, IN.; Kathryn Bolinger of Lebanon, IN.; Susan Stultz of Lafayette, IN.; Janet Knight (husband Paul) of Veedersburg, IN.; 4 sons, Jerry Buckles (wife Jane) of Linden, IN.; Mike Buckles (wife Denise) of Monticello, IN.; Ken Buckles of Charlotte, N.C.; Paul Buckles (wife Moina) of Linden, IN.; a brother, Lee Gross of Indianapolis, IN.; and a sister, Lois Grond of West Lafayette, IN. Friends may call at the HAHN-GROEBER FUNERAL HOME, Linden, from 5 until 8 PM Thursday. Funeral services at the HAHN-GROEBER CHAPEL 10:00 AM Friday, Pastor Duane Mycroft officiating. Interment St. Mary's Cemetery, Lafayette. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, 12 great-gandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by 2 sons, Robert A. and Gregory L.
