Alan Holdcraft

Alan W. “Smiley” Holdcraft, 82 of Romney, IN passed away Saturday April 23, 2022 in St. Vincent’s Hospital in Indianapolis. Smiley was born in Prarie Township, Brookston, IN August 10, 1939. The son of the late Samuel and Bessie Lachman Holdcraft and was a graduate of Lauramie Township High School in Tippecanoe County. He first married Elizabeth Mellady Feb. 3, 1962 and she preceded him in death March 21, 1990. He then married Dottie L. Freeman at Lafayette in May, 1994, and she preceded him in death April 22, 2022, just shortly before Smiley’s death. Smiley was a former member of the Indiana National Guard, and had been employed by Essex Wire in Lafayette as a supervisor in the shipping department for 34 years before his retirement. Surviving are three sons, Adrian Holdcraft (Mona) of Romney, IN; Brian Holdcraft (Leslie) of Lafayette; Cory Holdcraft of Lafayette and a brother, John Holdcraft of Indiana. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Max and William Holdcraft. Private graveside services will be held at Romney Cemetery, Romney, IN. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society.
