Agnes Hickman

Agnes E. Hickman, 103, of Oxford, IN. died at Creasy Springs Health Campus in Lafayette 3:50 PM Saturday February 26, 2011. She was born February 17, 1908 near Boswell, IN. the daughter of the late Amos and Daisy Kelly Roberts and moved to the Oxford area in 1917. She married Floyd C. Hickman in 1934 and was co-owner with him in the electrical business in Oxford until his death in 1963. Mrs. Hickman was a graduate of Oxford High School in 1925 and DePauw University in 1929 where she was president of her sorority and involved in college activities. Mrs. Hickman enjoyed reading, traveling, and raising and sharing her roses. She was a member of Oxford Federated Church; was employed by Purdue University; was Deputy Recorder for four years and Benton County Recorder for 8 years. Mrs. Hickman was Past Matron and 75 year member of the Order of Eastern Star; past president of Zeta Chapter and District Inspector of Delta Sigma Kappa sorority; and a member of Iota Psi Alpha sorority. She was a member of the Psoriasis Club; member of the VFW Auxiliary; euchre and bridge clubs; Federated Church Women and Benton County United Church Women. Mrs. Hickman was past president of the Benton County Republican Women's Club; and District Director of State Federation of Republican Women; was Senior Citizen Intern to Washington, D.C.; and was precinct committee women for 26 years. She received the Tribute to Women Award and Golden Eagle award for 50 years of service to the Republican Party and the Indiana Wall of Fame Award and picture in the Indiana State Museum. Mrs. Hickman enjoyed traveling in the United State, including Alaska and Hawaii, as well as traveling abroad to Canada, Mexico, Europe, China, Hong Kong, Nova Scotia, Austria, Switzerland and Germany. She is survived by 2 sons, Willis D. "Bill" Hickman (wife Anna Carol) of Lafayette and Richard N. Hickman (wife Karen) of Sacramento, CA. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren, Steve M. Hickman (wife Mary Ann) and Troy D. Hickman (wife Elaine) of Lafayette; Robert J. Hickman (wife Amanda) of Oklahoma; Leslie A. Hickman of Indianapolis; Kolleen C. Wooten (husband Howard) of North Carolina; Mike R. Hickman (wife Sharon) of Virginia; Cathleen K. Carter (husband Bart) of Sacramento, CA. and 8 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son James and his wife Shirley and a brother Wilber N. Roberts. Friends may call at the HAHN-GROEBER FUNERAL HOME, Oxford, from 5 until 8 PM Thursday. Funeral services at the HAHN-GROEBER FUNERAL HOME 10:30 AM Friday, Pastor Bill Johnson officiating, with interment in Justus Cemetery.
