John Griswold

John L. Griswold, 85 of Lafayette, passed away at The Springs in Lafayette 2:22 PM Wednesday April 26, 2023 where he had been a patient for the past three weeks. John was born in Lafayette August 20, 1937, the son of the late James and Eva (Wilson) Griswold and was a graduate of Lafayette Jefferson High School. He married Dorothy M. Buis in Lafayette June 7, 1956 and she survives. John retired with the rank of Lieutenant in 2003 from the Lafayette Fire Department after serving 35 years. He was a member of Firefighters Local 472, enjoyed family dinners, watching the Chicago Cubs, and spending time with his extended family at Chick-Fil-A. Surviving with his wife, Dorothy is a daughter, Lora J. Elston (Dane) of BattleGround, IN; two sons, John Griswold (Robin) of BattleGround, IN and Kevin Griswold (Cora) of Lafayette, IN, a sister, Shirley Wooten of TN and a daughter-in-law Pam Griswold of Lafayette, IN. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Kerri Bixler, Jan Wellborn, Kyle Griswold, Kristian Nichols, Amanda Russ, Billie Jean Griswold, Dakota Griswold, Jacquelyn & Derrick Kiser; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by a son, David Griswold, a grandson, Kristopher D. Elston, and four brothers, Leonard Lovejoy, Jim, Russell and Dallas Griswold. Friends may call at the Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home, 1104 Columbia St., Lafayette from 11:00 AM until the Fireman’s Last Alarm Service at 1:00 PM on Tuesday May 2, with funeral services immediately following, Rev. Dr. Curtis Brouwer officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
